Next year Mikel Nieve will largely follow the same schedule as he did in 2014 as he goes into his second season at Team Sky. The Tour de France and the Vuelta a Espana will again feature as an important part of his year but there are some novelties too.
After the recent Sky gathering in Mallorca, Mikel Nieve has finalized his racing schedule. After a start in the Vuelta a Andalucia, he will do Tirreno-Adriatico, Vuelta al Pais Vasco and the Ardennes classics. After a small break, he will do the Criterium du Dauphiné to prepare for the Tour de France while he will ride the Clasica San Sebastian and the Vuelta a Espana in the second part of the season, according to a report from Biciciclismo. Compared to this year, he will skip the Tour of Oman in favour of the Andalusian race while his participation in the Ardennes is anoher novelty.
In his first year at Team Sky, Nieve earned the trust of team principal Dave Brailsford and technical staff of the British team. He won a stage in the Dauphiné and was fourth in the Clasica San Sebastian, 10th in Tirreno-Adriatico, 12th in the Vuelta a Espana where he was the most important domestique for Chris Froome, and 18th in the Tour de France where he was the best rider from the team. With Froome set to ride in Andalusia and at Tirreno, the Tour and the Vuelta, Nieve is set to be an important support rider for the etam captain.
His victories include a win at the Vuelta a Espana (2010) and the Giro d'Italia (2011). He was 10th in the Giro d'Italia (2011 and 2012), 10th in the Vuelta (2011) and 12th in the Tour de France (2013).
