Sam Oomen is reflection on his first professional season and is now looking ahead to 2017. In an interview with magazine Cycling.be, the 21-year-old Giant-Alpecin talent reveals that he wants to finish with the best in the classics.
Oomen does not want to get carried awat with his success which saw him win the Tour de l’Ain in his first year.
"The steps I have taken at Rabobank and in my first year at Giant-Alpecin are not easy. I cannot continue to take giant step towards the top and it is increasingly difficult to deliver. I hope to be back stronger in 2017."
The climber and GC rider wants to play a role in the monuments like Tour of Lombardy and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. In the latter race he played a role in the finale but he was dropped on the Saint-Nicolas.
"I would be very happy if I really could be there at the very end in at least one big one-day race in 2017. Now I often come up short in those races.”
