Despite riders' protest resulting in the cancellation of the fifth stage of this year's Tour of Oman, the continuation of the event held in the Middle East has been confirmed for 2016 season.
The race organizer, Eddy Merckx, threatened that an unpleasant incident seriously endangered a future of the event and openly criticized an attitude presented by riders. However, a representative of the Omani party responsible for running the event emphasized that it wasn't a case.
According to the race supervisor, Habib Al Zawawi, the stage neutralization had no consequences for the future of Tour of Oman. He also didn't expect weather conditions to be a factor in upcoming editions.
„We have already organized five editions of the race and it wasn't a problem in the past. The race will run,” he said, according to Wielerflits.
