The Tour de San Luis celebrates its eight edition in 2014, and it is a pleasure to observe that the event improves year by year on both sporting and organizational ground. Even though the race is still to be considered a spectacle of a short history, it has already gained the valuable support of the San Luis province Governor.

Even though Tour de San Luis is not the World Tour level event yet, its route attracted many of the greatest names of today’s road cycling, in the likes of Tom Boonen, Mark Cavendish, Vincenzo Nibali, Nairo Quintana, Joaquim Rodriguez or Peter Sagan among others. Thus, the governor of San Luis, Claudio Poggi, expressed his will to support the race for “many more years”, as well as his satisfaction with a huge interest from media and the its positive influence on the economic and social development of the province.

While having a breakfast with reporters, Poggi together with Giovanni Lombardi, coordinator of the Tour de San Luis, has been questioned about the future of the race and its possible promotion to become a World Tour level event. The governor expressed his optimist on the matter and stressed that the most important thing is to develop slowly, "step by step ".

"Our goal is to become the Tour de France of America," he stressed.

"I believe that we should remain few more years in its present category. This does not role out making the next step forward to the World Tour category at some point, though. Right now it is the most important cycling event in South America and certainly can aspire to become much more, "  Poggi explained in Terrazas del Portezuelo , the seat of his government.

The Lombardi himself has confirmed this intention.

"Before thinking about changing the category, we have to wait for the race to grow and develop, as well as Argentinean cycling. We want to contribute to this. For now we don’t have any Pro continental or World Tour teams in Argentina, we could possibly invite to participate in the event," Lombardi said.

.The idea of organizing a race that would be held in San Luis came out, when the former Governor Alberto Rodriguez Saa visited the Tour the France and was impressed by the spectacle taking place in France.

Poggi’s commitment to cycling is not limited to running tour the San Luis, though. The body within his Ministry has been launched to manage the San Luis Us Continental team, as well as to introduce a bike to the daily life of its inhabitants, especially the younger ones.

Through the " TuBi " program 10,000 bikes distributed to children from 12 years and have designed a plan to promote and sell bikes through agreements with retailers and manufacturers and distributors.
