The 2017 TOUR Transalp powered by Sigma is going to display a firework of mountain pass roads and panorama views for the 15th  time in history next summer again. From June 25th till July 1st and true to the motto "old meets new", the route will lead the participating teams of two over 850 kilometres as well as some 18,500 metres of climbing and from Sonthofen (GER) via Imst (AUT), Naturns (AUT), Bormio (ITA), Livigno (ITA), Aprica (ITA) and Val di Ledro (ITA) to Arco (ITA), which is located close to Lake Garda.

 

After kicking off things in Germany, racers will explore the Allgau countryside first following the tracks of the Tannheimer Radmarathon before crossing the border to Austria.

 

Then it's time to climb the Timmelsjoch on a brand-new stage from Soelden into the Vinschgau region before things get nasty conquering the Passo Stelvio to make it to Bormio. What follows next is a real highlight stage including Passo Umbrail, Passo del Forno, Passo del Bernina and Forcola di Livigno before the route wraps up things by entering so far uncharted territory in the mountains west of Lake Garda.

 

As a result, Race Director Marc Schneider, who is responsible for the route design for the sixth consecutive time now, is offering a positive summary of his latest work:

 

"Also for the 15th TOUR Transalp edition we were able to include new stages as well as new passes making next year's race one to remember again."

 

"Especially the last two stages stand out with their serpentines-rich and demanding climbs in so far TOUR Transalp unfamiliar territory. But also tried and tested parts like the ride up to Hahntennjoch on the opening stage have been reviewed and edited in order to increase the cycling comfort for everyone."

 

As a result of this work-over the B180 - a road plagued with traffic - has been left out on the first day.

 

On top of that, Schneider has something more in store:

 

"This autumn, we will intensify the search for some more new parts to be added to the route. I'm very confident that we will come up with a final design which will be a perfect mix again of pure cycling enjoyment, sweat-inducing climbs, breathtaking scenery and an exciting culture."

 

Registration kicked off October 4th

Since its inaugural edition back in 2003, the TOUR Transalp powered by Sigma has become a must-compete-in event for the cycling enthusiastic average Joe.

 

From June 25th till July 1st, 2017, it's time to cross the main chain of the Alps for the 15th time already.

 

Over the course of seven stages, participants racing in teams of two will take up the challenge of mastering some 850 kilometres in distance as well as around 18,500 metres of climbing from Sonthofen (GER) via Imst (AUT), Naturns (AUT), Bormio (ITA), Livigno (ITA), Aprica (ITA) and Val di Ledro (ITA) to Arco (ITA).
