According to Italian media, Domenico Pozzivivo crashed heavily during a training ride and was quickly taken to nearest hospital, where medical examination revealed a fractures of right fibula and tibia. In such circumstances, it seems very unlikely that the tiny Italian will return to racing this season.
According to Tuttobiciweb, the Ag2r La Mondiale rider crashed heavily after colliding with a guardrail and suffered a multiple fractures to his right leg as a consequence.
This season, Pozzovivo animated mountain stages of the Giro d’Italia, eventually finishing fifth overall, and was expected to return to action at the Vuelta a Burgos before participating in the Vuelta a Espana.
Even though the information is yet to be confirmed by the rider or the French squad, type of sustained injuries suggests that it will be extremely difficult for the 31-year old Italian to return to racing before the end of the 2014 season.
