Renato Ricci, the organizer of the Trofeo Matteotti, announced that the race in the Abruzzo region will not happen this season.
Normally scheduled on July 20, Ricci said he could not get enough financial backing to keep the race in the professional calendar:
"It was a painful choice because the Trofeo Matteotti remains the only race professional international character occurring in the south-central Italy."
He also claims to Spaziociclismo it is only a goodbye, not a farewell. Last year, it was the Swiss Sébastien Reichenbach (IAM Cycling) who won, just ahead of Johan Tschopp (IAM Cycling) and Enrico Battaglin (Bardiani CSF Inox).
