Considered an "extraordinary heritage of the region," the Trofeo Matteotti will return to the calendar in 2015. This was announced by the president of the Italian Cycling Federation, Renato Di Rocco, who spoke during the presentation of the GM Cycling Team, the new team of businessman Gabriele Marchesani.
"This year it is great going to do it - says the number one man in Italian cycling – "many people in Italy were angry it wasn’t an event in 2015 and was missing from the Coppa Italia. We have not made a choice between two candidates, but we chose (the AC Arona, ed) for opportunities: it meant starting in Turin, Milan, during the EXPO 2015, a big cycling event we wanted, and finish in Turin in 2015, which will be the European capital of sport. In 2016, Pescara would be ideal; the important thing is that the Region, the Province and all the institutions we believe, because this ride is a heritage of the area and watching the roll of honor is inspirational."
