It required a time tral to stop all attacks that Androni Sidermec who have been in the breaks in almost every stage of the first part of the Giro d'Italia. 

Lacking a time trial specialist, Franco Pellizotti and his teammates knew how to save their legs in view of the Madonna di Campiglio stage and therefore took an easy ride.

The only rider who wanted to test himself and had a good start to the test was Sergei Tvetkov but he was the victim of a crash, fortunately without serious consequences. However, it took him out of contention.
