At the stage of Abetone, where the favorites Alberto Contador, Fabio Aru, Richie Porte and Jan Polanc made their mark, Serghei Ţvetcov slso played an important role. 

The rider from Androni Sidermec was involved in a long breakaway with four other attackers but was unable to hold onto the best in the finale. Being one of two Romanians to represent the country in the race, he was the first rider from his home country to ever animate a Giro stage. He even won both sprints and is now tied with teammate Marco Frapporti and former World Champion Philippe Gilbert in the sprint standings. 

It was the fourth consecutive day for Androni with a rider in the early break.
