Amets Txurruka (Caja Rural) achieved a valuable 2nd place in the Tour des Fjords. The Basque is now 5th in the GC and leader of the mountains competition and the team leads the teams classification. Teammate Angel Madrazo was very active too, finished 9th and is 9th overall.
Team Principal Eugenio Goikoetxea commented on the stage: "There was a break and we had to work to bring it back. Amets atacked to score KOM points and got into a break which Madrazo also managed to join. In the end he was a close second which is a shame.
"We took second with Amets, ninth with Madrazo, the mountains jersey with Amets and the lead in the teams classification. Amets is also 5th overall and we will try to defend that in the finale stage. The team is still working well and doing a great job every day. We have been active and even though we didn't take the big prize, we were in the mix."
"I felt fine," Txurruka said. "We were two in the final break and did reall well in the finale. I tried but I couldn't win. I felt really good but I started the final climb a little mpty because I had to work hard to get back to the first five. I caught them and managed to be with the best. The team did a great job to catch the early break so I have to thank them for that effort."
In the GP Plumelec, teammate Fabrizio Ferrari was very active and finished 12th after he had been on the attack on the penultimate lap
