The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) have announced the list of 61 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) qualified for the Road Men’s events at the upcoming Olympic Games, and the quotas of athletes allocated to them.
The quotas are based on the final 2015 WorldTour ranking, with the Continental rankings determining the quotas for nations that failed to qualify via the WorldTour. The same goes for the time trial where performances at the Worlds also come into consideration.
Spain and Italy are the only countries to qualify the maximum number of riders for both the road race and the time trial while Great Britain, Colombia and Belgium also have the maximum of five riders available in the road race.
According to the Olympic qualification system calendar for Road Cycling, the NOCs must confirm the number of athletes entered by 1 February 2016, before the UCI reallocates the remaining places.
The list of NOCs qualified for the Road Cycling Women’s events as well as the athletes’ quota allocation will be communicated in early June 2016.
