The member of the UCI Road Commission, Sean Patty, has confirmed that information spread by the Dutch media about the team time trial championships being held separately from individual events from next year was just a rumor. The race, as initially planned, will take place alongside the road race and individual time trial in Richmond, September 19-27, 2015.
The rumors were spread by the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, which published a story suggesting that a city of Limburg was interested in hosting the TTT event. A member of the USA Cycling board of directors emphasized that the issue hasn’t been discussed by the UCI Road Commission during their last meeting and everything remains as initially scheduled.
“As soon as I saw that story in De Telegraaf, I sent a note to Matthew Night who is the road coordinator at the UCI,” Petty told VeloNews. “These discussions would be held and contemplated at the Road Commission level, and we didn’t have those conversations at our last meeting at the end of August.”
“He confirmed that it was just a rumor, and the team time trial will be on the program in Richmond.”
As the information about a possibility of TTT race being separated from other championship events were spread, reigning champions BMC Racing were quick to criticize the idea, as well as perennial contenders Omega Pharma – Quick Step.
“It is going to be a totally different concept if you do it at a different time,” Omega Pharma – Quick Step sports director Tom Steels told Cyclingnews. “Within the teams it already is important, especially for the manufacturers, but with the public it still has a long way to go. I think, if you split it, it is doomed. It is still too fresh to do to be separated from the main event.”
