Diego Ulissi (Lampre-Merida) finished second on today’s stage as Joaquím Rodriguez soloed to an impressive stage win in the Vuelta a España today.
Over the past days the Itlian rider has been a regular feature in the leading group of the stages, and his runner-up spot today gives him a confidence boost prior to the forthcoming UCI World road Championships in Florence, Italy.
“It’s a pity to miss out on a stage win at the Vuelta but it’s no shame to finish second behind such a great champion. I’m happy with my ride. In fact, the most important is to feel the good shape coming ahead of the World Championships. In the past three days, I’ve become certain that I am in excellent condition to be able to show up at the World’s at my best.”
