Lampre-Merida had the absolute strongest roster for today’s Coppa Sabatini. It's never easy to win as favourite, but Diego Ulissi was not scared by the predictions and he succeeded in conquering Coppa Sabatini.
A breakaway was formed by six riders, but the Lampre-Merida team had no intention of letting them go to the finish line before the peloton. The race ended with a demanding hill and in the final kilometre the young gun performed a strong and decisive sprint. He finished ahead of the rest of the leading group, which contained 20 riders. Ulissi won his 5th victory in this season.
"It's not easy to win when everybody is watching you and is waiting for you to performe,” Ulissi explained, “Despite this, I could achieve my goal and I really want to thank my team-mates for amazing help they gave.”
“This season has been very positive until now for me and the good form is still allowing me to be in the head of the races, fighting for the victory"
Sport director Maini commented using these words:
"All the team members deserved the victory, since they gave a perfect support to Diego. Ulissi completed a very good race for the team, showing his top quality once again.”
