Marcel Wyss spent four years in the Swiss World Tour team IAM which will fold at end of the season. Where the Swiss will continue his career is 2017 is not known. "My future is still unclear," Wyss told radsport-news.com.
The 30-year-old had a "very intense year" where he tried to recommend himself for a new employer. Wyss had 86 racing days and so was one of the most active in the peloton. "I've never had so many racing days. I've never done two three-week races in a year," he told about his 2016 program which began on January 30 at the Mallorca Challenge and ended on 1 October at Il Lombardia.
Originally, Wyss wanted to mainly concentrate on the Giro d`Italia. However, after the first of the three grand tours didn’t go as he wanted, the climbing specialist decided, in consultation with the team leader, to also do the Vuelta a Espana. As preparation Wyss did the Tour de l`Ain where he finished fourth in a stage and took eighth in the overall standing.
"I boosted my self-confidence there," said the seventh place finisher at the Swiss Championships who ended the Spanish race with good form as 21st but had expected more. "It was a bit disappointing, but it was a lot of fun to be with this team at the Vuelta," said Wyss who ultimately paid for the hardships of the Spanish event and had to end Il Lombardia prematurely
"And so I will remember the Vuelta as a 'conclusion'. In any case, I am infinitely grateful to Team IAM for the four years," Wyss summed up his time with the Swiss team.
