“He is premature doing these things. At 23 he is doing spectacular things. Clearly he is of high quality. Nairo is privileged physically and he has a head equally as privileged,” Unzué said."

Manager of Movistar Team Eusebio Unzué says that Nairo Quintana has developed faster than he had imagined. The Colombian sensation has made a good impression on the Spanish manager.

“With him, everything is accelerated,” Unzué said according to Cyclingnews.com. “He won the Tour de l’Avenir, the amateur Colombian time trial championships and then a stage of the Dauphiné, with the whole Sky team behind.”

Nairo Quintana has been a real success for the Spanish team. He joined the team in 2012. In his first year, he won Vuelta a Murcia, Route du Sud and Giro dell’Emilia. 2013 was the year where he had his big breakthrough in the professional cycling sport. He started the year off by winning Tour of Basque, then he finished 2nd in Tour de France, took the white jersey and the polka dot jersey in Tour de France, before finishing his year of by winning Vuelta a Burgos.

“He is premature doing these things. At 23 he is doing spectacular things. Clearly he is of high quality. Nairo is privileged physically and he has a head equally as privileged,” Unzué said.

Eusebio Unzué thinks that it will be hard to repeat his last season, but due to his good results it may be difficult.

"A repeat of 2013 will be difficult because it was very good, but not impossible,” he said.

When the season ended, Movistar Team found themselves at the top of the UCI rankings. Sky may have won the biggest races, but Movistar had the most stabile season of the two teams.

“It wasn’t a goal, but it was a prize for regularity. We played with the different riders that we had to be competitive,” explained Unzué.

He didn’t want to say whether or not this is the best Movistar team that has ever been.

“In the 90s, the team wasn’t exactly lacking, with Perico Delgado, Julian Gorospe, Miguel Indurain, Bernard Jean François and Alonso Martin.” Who, between them, won over 200 races for the team.

“It is possible that the Movistar team now is more versatile, with riders of very different profiles and with cyclists who can win more things.”
