Etixx - Quick-Step rider Rigoberto Uran moved up from 6th to 4th in the overall classification after the 59.4km Stage 14 ITT of the Giro d'Italia, from Treviso to Valdobbiadene, on Saturday. Uran finished 23rd in the stage, 2'45" down on stage winner Vasil Kiryienka (Team Sky). Kiryienka crossed the finish line with a time of 1:17:52 (45.771km/h). Uran's time of 1:20:37 was at an average speed of 44.207 kilometers per hour.
Luis Leon Sanchez (Astana) finished 2nd, 12" down, and Alberto Contador (Tinkoff-Saxo) put himself back into the maglia rosa by placing 3rd, 14" down on Kiryienka.
As a result of the ITT performances, Fabio Aru is now 2nd in the overall classification by 2'28", Andrey Amador (Movistar) is 3rd by 3'36", and Uran is 4th, +4'14" to Contador in the pink jersey.
Etixx - Quick-Step looks next to the 165km high mountain stage on Sunday, from Marostica to a Category 1 summit finish on Madonna di Campiglio. There are three climbs of high category, including Category 1 Passo Deone with a summit at the 134km mark of the stage.
"Today wasn't a good day for me," Uran said. "I was expecting a lot from this day, and I hoped to do well, but I couldn't find a good rhythm and speed in the first part. I wasn't in the best condition.
"The crash of a few days ago affected me a bit on the bike. I had immediate pain in my gluteal, shoulder, and back muscle on the left side and I couldn't quite push full gas the way I would have liked. The time trial position is a lot different from the road and I struggled to find a good position due to my pain from the crash. It was also windy in the first part, and rain along the parcours, which further affected my ability to find a good rhythm.
"But, it is what it is. In any case I am confident about the last week. There is a week of difficult high mountain stages. I will try of course to keep fighting to stay there with the best of the GC. I will keep going until the end of the Giro d'Italia. I like to fight and I know in a race like the Giro things can change in a moment. I will do my best in the last days of the Giro."
