Runner-up in last two editions of the Giro d’Italia, Rigoberto Uran attended the official presentation of the next year’s route of the Italian three-week event along with his team-mates Michał Kwiatkowski and Matteo Trentin. The well-balanced parcours should, on paper, suit the 27-year old Colombian down to the ground, but he emphasized that a decision in regards to his race programme for 2015 will be made following his Tour of Beijing participation next week.
Uran has significantly improved his time trialing since joining Omega Pharma – Quick Step for 2014 season and became the Giro d’Italia leader following his impressive performance against the clock in 12 stage from Barbaresco to Barolo.
Unsurprisingly, the 28-year old Colombian pointed out to the hilly, 59.2-kilometre long time trial in next year’s edition of the Italian Grand Tour as one of the most important key points, along with traditionally mountain-heavy ultimate week of the event.
The Omega Pharma – Quick Step leader emphasized that even if the route is regarded as balanced, it still requires a lot of consistency to take all the spoils in Milan. He also revealed that despite his brilliant performances in previous three editions of the Giro, it hasn’t been decided yet whether he will participate next season.
"Once again it is a nice, tough Giro," said Colombian rider Uran, who finished 2nd in the overall classification in 2014.
"Probably the two key points are the long time trial, and of course the last week of the Giro. The final week is always the most important part. You can be strong in the first two weeks and then, if you're not consistent, your Giro can fall apart in the last week. It can be complicated. The weather conditions can also be a factor during that time of year. We'll see if I participate or not. Now is too early to say, as we haven't determined my race calendar yet with the team. I have to ride Tour of Beijing, meet with the team, and then figure out my 2015 schedule.”
