Alejandro Valverde will represent Spain in the road race at the Rio Olympic Games held next month. The Movistar rider will lead the selection. 

 

El Imbatido will be joined by Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha Team) and three teammates : Imanol Erviti (Movistar), Ion Izaguirre (Movistar), and Jonathan Castroviejo (Movistar). The latter two will compete in the individual time trial.

 

Former Tour de France winner Alberto Contador, who is recovering from injuries suffered in the Tour de France, was not selected and has set his sights on the Vuelta.
