Wout van Aert completed a perfect weekend in dominant style by riding to a convincing solo victory in the Superprestige race on the motor circuit in Spa-Francorchamps. The Belgian was in a class of his own on the muddy, hilly circuit and beat Sven Nys into second by more than a minute, with Kevin Pauwels completing the podium in third. Van Aert also extended his overall lead in the Superprestige series.

"This was a very difficult cross," van Aert told Het Nieuwsblad. "It was very hard, but I'm very happy with this victory. I attacked early and had a comfortable lead at the halfway point, but it was actually not the plan that I would attack so soon. I knew the steep running section favoured me so that’s why I accelerated there. Straight away I had a gap at the top. Then I couldn't wait for the rest.

“It’s a tough course where you have to ride at your own pace for an hour. It’s those courses I like the most. When I had a comfortable lead halfway I was still suffering, with enjoyment too.

"Whether the course could be even harder? This was difficult enough. But of course such hard routes suit me.

"I hope I can still keep this form until the championships. Last year I also rode very well, but in January there were suddenly some riders that did as well as I did. I can't take anything for granted."
