In yesterday's cross in Mol, Wout van Aert again proved that he is currently the best cyclo-cross rider in the world. "I really wanted to do well here today," he told Het Nieuwsblad. "Our entire team os based in Mol so there was certainly enough motivation.
"I was very motivated for this race," Wout Van Aert said after the Zilvermeercross in Mol. "Mol is the home of the team and I wanted to deliver a good performance."
However Van Aert was not feeling too well at the start of the race . "I was not feeling too good at the start, but luckily that did not last long and I got better as the the race went on. Suddenly I was in the final in a position to win and I was able to finish it off."
When the breakaway was split due to a crash that involved Mathieu van der Poel and Tom Meeusen, van Aert did not hesistate. "Laurens Sweeck had a little gap. We were already near the end of the race so I knew that I could not him go. Once I caught him, I decided not to give him any rest and later I rode away from him. It was a tough cross, but I would here like to show something, even if it is not an event of one of the major series. Mol is the home of Vastgoedservice and Wilfried Peeters who does a lot for the team behind the scenes. I wanted to be good here. I promised Rob Peeters to win here. At one point I wanted to ride for him but in the final I lost sight of Rob. It was too bad, because I saw his work at the training camp and know that he is in good shape. I want to dedicate this victory to Rob's father who recently passed away."
