BMC Racing Team's Tejay van Garderen crashed without serious consequences while teammate Samuel Sánchez tried in the final. I
n the fourth stage of the Vuelta a España, from Estepona to Vejer de la Frontera of 210 km, Alejandro Valverde (Movistar Team) took the victory beating Peter Sagan (Tinkoff-Saxo) in a tricky uphill final. Third place was Daniel Moreno (Katusha Team).
Van Garderen crashed with 35 km to go without serious consequences and finished the stage in the first group after a chase of 20 km, helped by his teammates.
“My bike slipped away in a roundabout because of the dirty road,” said van Garderen.
Sánchez tried to finalize the stage in a tricky uphill final and finished 21st from the winner. Both Sanchez and van Garderen finished the stage with the main group.
“The guys did a good job today,” said Sport Director Yvon Ledanois, “before helping Tejay and after preparing the attack of Sanchez."
