After the third and last rest day, the Giro d'Italia peloton will be back in action today. Don’t let the short distance (132km) fool you, because it will be a tough day on the bike. The first part of the stage is downhill, but two long climbs await the riders later. The last kilometres towards the finish are uphill as well.
On the rest day Jelle Vanendert shared his thoughts on the last Giro week.
“The rest day was welcome after all the work we had done and the tough mountain stages," he said. "My legs are still feeling well, but that can be different every day. At this point of the race you have bad days and good days. Because of a perineal injury I sit differently on the bike and I need to pay attention to that.
"The next days there are definitely opportunities, especially for the climbers and riders who have more energy left than others. Now you don’t need to be the best climber, but the most fresh one and I hope to be in the right move one day. We can definitely get another victory with the team, because we all love to attack and then you definitely have a chance the last week.”
