On Tuesday Jelle Vanendert (Lotto-Belisol) had to leave the second stage of the Vuelta al País Vasco.

 

Tests in Belgium on Thursday showed that he has an inflammation of his oesophagus, which explains why he could hardly eat anything during the past few days. The medication cure that has been started should help to overcome the problem.

 

Vanendert won’t participate in the Brabantse Pijl next Wednesday and will prepare himself for the Amstel Gold Race instead.
