Belgian media are reporting that there is a 90% chance Sep Vanmarcke leaves LottoNL-Jumbo this season. The rider will have a meeting with the Dutch team next week to decide his future.
Het Nieuwsblad report he doesn’t get on well with his personal trainer and he was very unhappy that his brother Ken was not kept on the staff and has now joined SEG Racing, a top development team.
Vanmarcke would be the standout rider available this winter in 90% of all transfer markets. But this year, John Degenkolb, Michael Matthews and Peter Sagan are all available. Riders who are younger than Vanmarcke and have better palmares and potential.
Both Lotto-Soudal and Etixx-QuickStep were interested in the past, but Lotto have spent lots of money tying up Greipel, Gallopin and Wellens to new deals and Etixx certainly prefer Sagan. The same can be said for Trek-Segafredo, but they need someone for the 2017 Classics.
Team Manager Luca Guercilena told Het Nieuwsblad: “We have drawn up a plan with Jasper Stuyven. Only after 2018 is he the absolute leader to carry the team. ”
BMC Racing could also figure in the transfer scrap. “I’ve worked with Sep in the past. He is and remains a very interesting rider,” said perfomance manager Allan Peiper.
