Sep Vanmarcke is looking forward to Saturday. Will he be able to win the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad for the second time? "The legs have felt good for a while," he told Sporza after having done a course recon with the Dutch LottoNL-Jumbo team.
However, Vanmarcke actually didn't need to check the course. "I know the route. Almost every day I train in the Flemish Ardennes, but it's always good to test the legs. And it brings you back into the atmosphere," said the 26-year-old rider who knows the region very well.
"That's always an advantage. Not many riders have the same knowledge of the course."
In 2012, Vanmarcke won Omloop and he hopes to add his name to the list again. "The legs have felt good for a while. I look forward to Saturday. The confidence is there and the team is also ready. We will do everything to win."
Vanmarcke is not at 100% though. "He wants to peak later in the season. "For the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix. Then I will be better," Vanmarcke explained. "But I don't miss much. I can keep my peak condition for a lomg time.
Where does Vanmarcke plan to attack? On the Lange Munte cobbles? "The race will decide. I know several places where I can attack."
Where plant Sep Vanmarcke his attack? The Lange Munte? "That will determine the price. I know several places where you can go." And who will he watch? "I have not thought about it. I'll see. We will mainly focus on our own strengths."
