"The day after a breakaway is when you feel how much it hurts. Today with the wet road and the sea wind I felt like a bag of sand."
Those were the words of Alessandro Vanotti after the final stage at Tirreno-Adriatico. Vanotti finished the short, flat individual time trial along Italy's Adriatic seacoast 1:27 seconds behind stage winner Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland. Vanotti rode almost all of the small breakaway in stage six in cold wind and rain.
Teammate Vincenzo Nibali was the highest-placed finisher from Astana, finishing the 10km in 11:54 to place 16th in the final General Classification, 2:00 from race winner Nairo Quintana of Colombia.
