Klaas Vantornout know why he has been below his level in recent weeks. The Belgian champion suffers from an infection and will now undergo a treatment with antibiotics. "My blood values are affected," the Sunweb-Napoleon Games rider told veldritkrant.be
Vantornout skipped last Sunday's World Cup race in Valkenburg because he felt bad. The Belgian champion underwent a thorough investigation and the results of the blood test revealed an infection.
"All parameters of my blood values are completely wrong. The number of white blood cells is too high and it is an infection that is at the root of the misery.
"On Monday I started with a course of antibiotics for five days. On Friday I will check my blood values.
"Normally I willl start Sunday's Superprestige race in Zonhoven. But do not expect me to be part of the battle for the podium."
