Klaas Vantornout has been allowed to participate in the Koppenbergcross on the 1st of November, according to a report in Het Nieuwsblad. At an earlier stage, the Belgian champion had been denied an invitation to the Bpost Bank Trofee race.
Budgetary reasons forced the organizers not to offer Vantornout a contract for the entire Bpost Bank series. The wider field of top riders prompted Erwin Vervecken who deals with the field, to make that decision. Vantornout was the victim but he found it strange that the Belgian tricolor was not invited.
Initially Vantornout would only start in the race in Ronse which has already been held, and in the rounds in Hamme and Oudenaarde. Now the Koppenbergcross can be added to the list. The big question is whether Vantornout will actually be able to do the race. Last Sunday, he skipped the World Cup race inValkenburg and the Superprestige race in Zonhoven next weekend is under threat. Vantornout suffers from a blood infection.
