After a big disappointment in yesterday's race in Hasselt, Klaas Vantornout bounced back with a solid second place in today's race in Overijse. The former Belgian champion was pleased with his performance after a week when he had done little training.
Due to a crash, Klaas Vantornout was forced to abandon yesterday's race in Hasselt. Today he did much better in Overijse where he finished second in the Druivencross. He was beaten by Tom Meeusen in the sprint but still looked back at the race with satisfaction. "It might be a thankless place but it was confirmation that I am doing well," he told Het Nieuwsblad afterwards.
However, the Belgian took his foot of the gas last week where he was only on the bike once. "I also want to be good later in the season," he explained. "Today we were four riders that were evenly matched but like me, Tom Meeusen was not at his best yesterday. He was smart enough to know that he had to be in front when he entered the finishing straight and that's what he was. In the sprint, I still had some power in the legs. I could continue but it was not enough to pass Tom."
