Defending champion Gustavo Cesar Veloso had a great day in Volta a Portugal. Sending his team mate Delio Fernandez on the hunt for the stage win in the most successful way, Veloso obtained the yellow jersey from Belgian Gaetan Bille.
The second stage and third day of the Portuguese race ended with a uphill finish on a first category climb. The climb turned out to be too much for the Belgian leader Gaetan Bille, which was expected also by the Belgian himself.
In the last hundred meters only three riders were alone: Jose Goncalves, Delio Fernandez and Veloso. Fernandez blasted towards the line and took the stage, while seeing his leader going into the leader’s jersey ahead of the stage of tomorrow.
“We must take it step by step and see how the other teams respond to this,” Gustavo Veloso said according to Esciclismo.
