According to insidethegames.com, Hein Verbruggen has revealed that he has reached an agreement with UCI president Brian Cookson to end legal proceedings between  the Dutchman, Cookson and the UCI.

When the Cycling Independent Reform Commission report was released earlier this year, Cookson called for Verbruggen to give back his title as honorary president. Verbruggen has been accused of covering up a positive doping test from Lance Armstrong from the 1999 Tour de France when he served as president of the federation. Verbruggen has always denied this and other allegations.

73-year-old Verbruggen reacted by initiating a lawsuit against Cookson and the UCI and lodged a complaint with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Ethics Commission. Mediation of the IOC finally resulted in a deal which brings the legal battle to an end.

The agreement states that Cookson will recognize Verbruggen's title as honorary president and will no longer call for the withdrawal of that status. According to Insidethegames, Verbruggen also receives a fee of 40,000 euros.
