Todya Angel Vicioso (Team Katusha) returned to racing in the first stage of the Dubai Tour, nearly nine months after his crash in the sixth stage of the Giro d'Italia.
The Spaniard broke his femur in the crazy finale of the Montecassino stage on May 15. His right leg took a long time to recover, but the team decided not to let him race anymore in 2014. Today, 266 days later, Vicioso was back in action. "After nine months without racing, I will wear a race number at the Dubai Tour... thanks to everybody who have been at my side," he tweeted two days ago.
At 37 years of age, he goes into his seventeenth season as a professional, the last four as part of Katusha where he has become the guardian angel of Joaquim Rodriguez. His goal is still the same: to help Rodriguez stay at the top.
In his career, he has been riding for Kelme (1999-2002), ONCE (2003), Liberty (2004-2005), Astana (2006), Relax (2007), LA-MSS (2008), Andalucía (2009-2010), Androni (2011) and Katusha (2012-2015).
