Michael Vingerling (3M) created a big surprise in today's Arnhem-Veendal Classic when the young Dutchman finished second ahead of several WorldTour riders. Unsurprisingly, the young Dutchman was very pleased with outcome that proved his potential at the highest level.

With several WorldTour teams in attendance, Team 3M were not expected to shine in today's Arnhem-Veenendal classic but the small Dutch squad created a major surprise when Michael Vingerling finished second. The young Dutchman made it into the decisive 10-rider breakaway from which eventual winner Yves Lampaert escaped.

In the finale, Vingerling attacked with Jos Van Emden and the young Dutchman had enough left to beat the WorldTour rider in the sprint for second.

"This is a great day for me and the team," he told Directvelo. "A second place in a 1.1 race is absolutely brilliant. It's great to make such a performance at a time when the team is still trying to survive for the coming season. This second place is the confirmation of the progress in the team's performaces.

"I could not catch Yves Lampaert. His attack was very strongand I was in a poor position. It would have been better with more collaboration. When I attacked, I thought it would be nice to have someone with me. I felt that the podium was possible at that time.

"Without Lampaert's attack, I do not know if I would have won as it would have been hard to beat Tom Van Asbroeck and Jean-Pierre Drucker in a sprint. This scenario with a second place is a success for me. Now I am travelling to Spain before starting the last part of the season."
