The Vini Fantini-Selle Italia team will return in 2014, with the name "Yellow Flou", although the exact team name could change based on negotiations with potential name sponsors, the team says in a statement.
The Italian team had a controversial 2013, with the team acquiring former Giro winner Danilo Di Luca before Giro d'Italia---and bringing home nothing but a positive EPO test. Also, another new recruit Mauro Santambrogio, who provisionally won a stage and finished 8th overall in Giro, tested positive for EPO too, although his B-sample failed to confirm the positive result.
The Yellow Flou now is determined to avoid similar doping scandals in the future, "Innovate in a process of public clarity about the great efforts made each year by the management to supervise and control their athletes," the team states. "There'll be news in terms of visibility and internal regulations, something that to date has never yet been done."
But the team was successful in other races nonetheless. Oscar Gatto won the exciting Dwars door Vlaanderen, and sprinter Chicchi took multiple victories both in Malaysia and in Latvia.
The Yellow Flou will target the Italian races as before, like Giro, Milano-San Remo, and also Il Lombardia in which the team had to forfeit the wildcard this year because of the Giro positives.
While the strong classic specialist Gatto left for Cannondale, the team now can rely on new recruit Simone Ponzi, a puncheur who can do also a decent sprint from Astana. Also sprinters Chicchi and Andriato will remain on the team, as well as climber Rabottini, all of which have ability to shine.
