Once again, the case about Astana manager Alexandre Vinokourov’s Liege-Bastogne-Liege victory hits the media. The Kazakh now accuses the former chief financial officer of Astana, Aidar Makhmetov of hacking his email account and leaking the email correspondence between him and Russian Aleksandr Kolobnev.

Alexandre Vinkourov won the 2010 version of the classic Liege-Bastogne-Liege, but since his victory, evidence has indicated that he may have bought the victory from Russian Aleksandr Kolobnev. The two formed a breakaway at the end of the race and Vinokourov took the victory.

In December 2011, an email correspondence between Vinoukorov and Kolobnev hit the Swiss newspaper L’Illustre. The correspondence indicated that the two riders had made an agreement in the breakaway, with Kolobnev receiveing 100 000 € for letting Vinokourov take the spoils.

The Kazakh rider denied everything. According to sudinfo.be, he is now accusing Aidar Makhmetov of hacking his account and leaking the emails. Makhemetov reportedly did it in order to get Vinoukourov kicked out of the team but didn't have any success in that mission.

UCI investigated the case in 2011, but closed it because of a lack of evidence. According to sudinfo.be the Belgian officials may reopen their investigation of the case.

Alexandre Vinokourov retired in 2012 and now works as general manager at Astana.
