Giovanni Visconti(Movistar) has gone successful operation on the fracture of his right tibia. The operation was done last night in Royal Adelaide Hospital, and the Italian could be back relatively soon, as early as in five weeks, says Movistar team.
Giovanni Visconti suffered the leg fracture in People's Choice Classic, two days before Tour Down Under race began. It was initially estimated that the former Italian national champion would miss a good chunk of the season. Looks like this would not be the truth, and Visconti could back to road training before March.
"Visconti will stay in the medical center for three days before being released and flying back to Europe next week with the rest of his team-mates at the end of the Tour Down Under," says his team.
The operation inserted a rod into Visconti's tibia along with screws to help stablize the fracture. "The recovery will depend on the evolution of his injuries, yet Visconti is expected to stay at least five weeks away from the roads."
Movistar team has an unlucky start in 2014. Aside from Visconti, sprinter Rojas Gil also suffered injury, who fractured his scaphoid in stage 1 of Tour Down Under. Also Erviti and Javi Moreno was involved in crashes in Tour Down Under as well, while Nario Quintana is experiencing stomach problems in Argentina. The other Quintana, Dayer, didn't even get the chance to race in Argentina due to visa problems.
