Giovanni Visconti (Movistar) was taken to hospital after fracturing his leg in a crash during the People’s Choice Classic.
While almost all of the other riders involved in the crash were able to get up and restart the race, Visconti remained on the ground.
Race doctor Mark Fisher confirmed that he had broken his leg and a rod would need to go into the bone.
Race Director Mike Turtur extended his sympathies to Visconti, saying that "It's an unfortunate accident that sometimes happens in racing but we'll all give support to Giovanni and his team as he recovers from his injuries."
It is unclear how much of the season the Italian will miss as of yet.
