Giovanni Visconti of Movistar Team has been the biggest victim of the crash marred People’s Choice Classic, as the Italian rider fractured his leg at the very beginning of the season. As it was reported, Visconti has undergone a successful surgery in Australia and wasn’t expected to return to competition until after at least five weeks of recovery, but Sicilian cyclist has already resumed his trainings and is full of motivation ahead of his major 2014 objectives.
Even though Visconti hasn’t returned to racing on road yet, the Italian claims to spent long hours in the gym, swimming pool and rollers in order to finish his recovery period as quickly as possible.
“This crash will not stop me,” Visconti told in the interview for Italian radio station
“My victories at the Giro d’Italia last year have unlocked me mentally, even if after the giro I didn’t have much luck. Let’s say that I was always found at the wrong place in the wrong moment, but in my mind I was always motivated, ready to perform well, I’m eager to return to competition in even better condition than before.”
Apparently, the crash with its consequences will force the former Italian champion to revise his initial racing schedule.
“The main goal was to get in the right shape for the Ardennes Classics and then to ride the Giro d’Italia.”
“Now, checking the calendar again, I aim to return to the peloton towards the end of March, but at this point I don’t know whether I will participate in the Giro, partially because Movistar wants to win the event with Nairo Quintana and so that they need the whole team to be in a top disposition.”
“I’ve marked with a red colour the date of the Italian Championships, which is the race that I love most,” Visconti concluded
