Cannondale are heading into the Tour de Slovenia with their seight set on both stage wins and the overall standings. Elia Viviani will target the sprint stage on the final day while Damiano Caruso will go for overall glory on the back of a solid showing in the Criterium du Dauphiné.
Cannondale Pro Cycling is ready to face the Tour de Slovenie, taking place June 19th through June 22nd, with an ambitious and well equipped team. The four stages of the race - which includes an opening 8.8 km time trial, one mountain stage and two mixed terrain routes - are ideal for hunting stages and competing for the general classification.
The Green Machine will have few important options to play during the race. Damiano Caruso proved to be on the rise at Critérium du Dauphiné and will race the Tour de Slovenie as team leader of for the GC. Elia Viviani, who returns to action after the Giro d'Italia, will search for success in the sprints. Home riders Matej Mohoric and Kristijan Koren will play a key role as well for the team - their motivations, as well as their abilities, could be a strong push to a successful result, as happened to Koren in 2012 when he won the final ITT and took the 3rd place in GC. For Davide Villella, it will be a return to action after suffering from an injury during stage 5 of the Giro d'Italia. Matthias Krizek, Cameron Wurf and Juraj Sagan will put their reliability at the service of the team's ambitions.
"We selected a competitive team, well balanced and in good condition," said team director Biagio Conte. "The performances we did during the last races are positive signals and we have expectations for a good result at Tour de Slovenie. We have the potential to do well every day as well as to fight for the GC with Caruso and Koren. Stages have open routes and we'll work also for Viviani, especially on the last day."
