After taking his first Grand Tour stage win in 2015 and using 2016 to focus on the track with the Olympics, Elia Viviani has confirmed 2016 will be all about the Classics.

He is currently racing the Track Worlds in London, but will return for the Classics, using Tirreno to prepare. Milan-Sanremo is his first big goal on the road. A return to the Giro is also potentially on his program.

"San Remo is on my programme. From here I go straight to Tirreno and I hope to do really good work there and I absolutely need this after a few weeks on the track," Viviani told Cyclingnews.

"I can prepare better for this race after the Olympic years and next year is the most important year for me in the Classics. I’m really focused on that. I do San Remo now as I have the condition, but we have two big leaders in [Geraint] Thomas and [Ben] Swift. Last year, Thomas could have won if he had five more seconds on the Poggio. Swift was on the podium before. This year it's not my focus but next year for sure my focus is on the classics."
