Sitting in second just four seconds behind Thibaut Pinot, Thomas Voeckler tried one final attack to turn things around in the final stage of the Tour du Gevaudan. However, he was brought back and had to settle for second.

"The stage was short and nervous. 128km is enough to make a good race, especially late in the season," he told Directvelo. "I suspected that FDJ had done the hard work yesterday and that it would be difficult to change things. I tried to attack in the final but it was impossible and I have no regrets. It was without much conviction. Thibaut (Pinot) was super strong and had a good team at his side. Again, he did the hard work yesterday. 

"I will soon compete in the Tour de Vendée and Paris-Bourges. I hope to do a good Tour de Vendée. I would have loved to do the Tour of Lombardy. It's a race in which I did done well two years ago. I am very attached to this historic race on the calendar, but we're not invited. I will be even more motivated in Vendée."
