For the organziers of the Tour de San Luis which starts today with a 186km stage, there is no doubt that Thomas Voeckler is one of the stars of the Argentine race. Alongside Nairo Quintana, Michal Kwiatkowski, Mark Cavendish, Carlos Betancur and local hero Sergio Godoy, he participated in the pre-race press conference. The organizers presented the Europcar leader as a "courageous rider" who is known for his “spectacular attacking and has worn the the yellow jersey and is a stage winner in the Tour."
Voeckler enjoyed the praise from the South Americans and announced that he had not made the trip to be a spectator during the week. "If the younger riders allow me, I'll make sure to go on the attack because my only chance to show myself is by slipping into the breakaways,” Voeckler said before the start of his 2015 season while recalling that in 2014 he broke his collarbone before the start of the Tour Down Under.” I've always preferred racing over training and to go on the attack has always been my philosophy. I was told that the Tour de San Luis was a quiet race to start the season but I'm sure that a big fight will take place in four days.”
