With the Abu Dhabi Tour the successful 2015 season came to an end for Team Katusha. Having little chances against the sprinter teams, Eduard Vorganov took his chance in the 4th and last evening stage around Yas Marina (110 km).
Vorganov stayed some 80 kilometers in the front together with two other riders. In the end the race ended with a bunch sprint where Elia Viviani (Team Sky) took his second stage win, ahead of Peter Sagan (Tinkoff-Saxo) and Andrea Guardini (Astana).
Alexey Lutsenko (Astana) and Gianluca Brambilla (Etixx – Quick Step) were the two riders accompanying Eduard Vorganov who broke away quite immediately after the start.
“It was nice what Eduard did. He showed he is of great value to a team from January till October. We can count on him. He tried today, that's already important. Eduard took also the last intermediate sprint. We did not win a stage here, but we showed our Katusha colors. I am satisfied. Now we head to Italy. Already tomorrow our first reunion for the 2016 season starts,” said team director Claudio Cozzi.
Overall winner of the first Abu Dhabi Tour was Esteban Chaves (Orica-GreenEdge) ahead of Fabio Aru (Astana) and Wout Poels (Sky). Eduard Voganov finished 22nd.
