The Vuelta a Andalucía-Ruta del Sol which will be held from February 17-21, has unveiled the course for its five days of competition, with two mountain stages, an individual time trial of 21 kilometers, a flat stage and a medium mountain stage.
The opportunity for the sprinters will be on the first day with a finish in Seville. Alto Santa Maria de Trassierra, a 2nd category climb 22 kilometers from Córdoba, will split the race on the second day. The third stage has four climbs, three of the second category, Lucero, Legionnaire, and Puerto del Valle just 16 kilometers from the finish in Padul (Granada).
The Vuelta a Andalucía will be decided in the last two stages. On Saturday, the riders face a time trial of 21 kilometers which includes a tough and explosive climb up Camino de Comendador with ramps of 15%.
The queen stage is the last one, with two category 2 climbs, one category 3 climb and two 1st catefory climbs. The finish is on the Peñas Blancas climb in Estepona, a 16km ascent averaging 6%.
More than 20 teams will be at the start. In 2015 Chris Froome beat Alberto Contador, with Benat Intxausti in third. Valverde won in 2012, 2013 and 2014; Irizar in 2011, Rogers in 2010, Posthuma in 2009, Freire in 2008 and Lastras in 2007.
