Two days ago race director Javier Guillen and Minister of Tourism Francesc Camp announced that the 2015 Vuelta a Espana will have a full stage in the principality of Andorra. The race will visit the country for four days.
On Monday August 31, a stage will finish in Andorra while the next day will be a rest day which will be held in the small country. On Wednesday, September 2, the entire stage will be held entirely on Andorran soil before the following stage will start in Andorra and head back to Spain.
The organizers haven't finalized the route of the race but according to Guillen, the Andorran stages will incorporate new finishes. The technical staff are looking at different courses and have had inputs from Joaquim Rodriguez who lives in Androrra and know a lot about the mountains in the country.
The Vuelta organizers and the Andorran government have signed a sponsorship agreement which means that Andorra will pay 180,000 euros for the visit as revealed by the minisier at a press conference in Coll de la Gallina who has hosted a stage finale in the past and is currently undergoing road construction.
"We are improving the road because it was a demand by many cycling enthusiasts," the mayor of Sant Julia de Loria said.
To announce the agreement between the organizers and the Andorran Ministry of Tourism, Guillen, Camp, Fernando Escartin and Rodriguez climbed Coll de la Gallina by bike.
The official presentation of the course is schedule for January in 10 Torremolinas. It will be the 80th anniversary of the race.
