After two seasons at Lampre - Merida, Luca Wackermann will wear the Neri Sottoli jersey in 2015. The Italian wants to restart his career after a season in which physical problems prevented him from showing what he was capable of as he explains in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"The transition to the professional ranks has been more difficult than expected. I expected more, especially this year. I had a good start until Roubaix. Then I had a small injury in my right knee just under the kneecao. Neither physical therapy nor TECAR solved the problem and so I had to rest. I skipped the Giro d'Italia. I started again in Utah but then I suffered from a cytomegalovirus and had to stop again. In Bernocchi, I was in the break but we were caught."
As for his move to the Neri Sottoli team, Wackermann explains that it was a choice of passion.
"I felt at home at Lampre-Merida. But then I was met with the engagement of Neri Sottoli and [managers Luca] Scinto and [Angelo] Citracca. It was a choice by heart. Since I was an amateur, I have wanted to be with them. But I went to Mastromarco, their historical rivals.
"Next year I hope for a good start. Then the Giro d'Italia will pass by my house in Monsummano Terme and my family's house in Rho and I hope to take the first win. From mid-November, I will start my preparation: gym, swimming, stretching and then riding my bike. In Tuscany and the Canary Islands."
