Robert Wagner was Belkin Pro Cycling Team’s best-placed rider in stage 13 of the Vuelta a España today. The German, who earlier this Vuelta placed third, had to settle for 13th.

Philippe Gilbert (BMC) won the stage that finished in Tarragona after 164 kilometres. Laurens ten Dam had a hard day but was able to limit the damage thanks to his teammates.

“It was a tough day for me,” ten Dam admitted. “After yesterday’s crash it was all about survival. I lost some time because in the last kilometre, a few riders ahead of me let a gap open, and I just didn’t have the power to respond.”

Robert Wagner acknowledged that he had only himself to blame for finishing 13th on the day.

“I had full support from the team and my legs felt good, but because of my own error, I finished only 13th,” he said. “I wasn’t positioned properly. I came up too late. Otherwise, another good result would've been possible today.”
