Linus Gerdemann (Cult Energy) won the second stage of the Tour of Luxembourg. The 32-year-old German beat his companion Marc de Maar and took the leader's jersey off André Greipel's shoulders. Jelle Wallays sprinted to third place 30 seconds later.
However, Jelle Wallays thought he had won.
"I did not know that Linus Gerdemann and Marc de Maar were still in front when we caught Stijn Steels and Fabio Duarte," he told Sporza.
"I wasted a great opportunity which is surely very unfortunate. With my third place, it is a good thing for the overall standings. I am now 42 seconds behind Gerdemann and have two stages to do something."
